Modulo Resources: Teaching resources
These teaching resources include activities and lesson plans that can be used to support players’ internalisation of the melodies and rhythms. The activities refer to specific pieces, but can be adapted for use with any of the music. These are just a few ideas to get you started, please use as much or as little as is helpful to you – please do share with us by email any other ideas for approaching your rehearsals.
As part of membership in the Modulo Programme, you have access to out Music Leadership Training programme. You will have been sent a discount code to access these - send us an email if you need this code again.
General resources
Here you can find a Lesson Structure to help give you some ideas for how you could structure lessons if you don’t have access to instruments, or if you want to spend some time exploring the music in a different way. It’s not designed prescriptively; instead, it’s a suggested structure for approaching the music if this is useful to you. You can find detailed versions of the lesson plan for each separate piece below too.
Listening questions
We suggest that you begin rehearsals for each piece by listening to the recording of the arrangement and following the sheet music. To help with active listening, ask Modulo players to focus on one or two of the following questions:
· Which four/eight bars are trickiest for your instrument? Why?
· Are there any accidentals or key changes? Where?
· Are there any time signature changes? Where?
· Are there any big dynamic changes (piano/forte/crescendo/diminuendo)? Where?
· Is your part a melody or accompaniment?
· How will this change how you play it?
· How would you describe the tempo of the piece?
· Is this piece mainly major or minor in tonality? Does it change?
