‘I Wish’ Video Guides
Find below 3 video guides made by one of our amazing conductors, Rocco. These guides should help simplify some of the more complex aspects of the piece by breaking down the rhythms, solo development and also the conducting of the piece.
‘I Wish’ - Rhythms
Here Rocco simplifies some of the more complicated rhythms in the piece by putting them with the words of familiar hot drinks. He gives examples throughout the melody sections and encourages you to develop your own versions for different difficult areas.
‘I Wish’ - Solo
Here Rocco helps simplify the daunting task of solo development! He gives the scale used for each instrument and shows how transposing instruments must be aware of additional sharps. He shows how to develop a solo starting with just 3 notes from the scale and then building up to using all 7 notes in the scale.
‘I Wish’ - Conducting
Here Rocco explains how and why conducting a piece such as ‘I Wish’ differs from conducting a piece of classical music. He explains the importance of the drum kit in this song, how the drumkit helps underpin the rhythmic foundations of the piece and why it is so important for the conductor to maintain close eye contact with the percussion section. Lastly Rocco gives advice on marking a score such as ‘I Wish’ to allow the orchestra to easily follow and come in at correct entries.
