Sparks is the culmination of the National Orchestra for All’s (NOFA) 2016-2017 Painters of Sound season, exploring the crossovers and connections between music and the visual arts.
The idea that just one drop of paint or a simple musical motif can spark artistic and musical work of intense complexity has been an overarching theme of the season.
Two compositions will première at this concert, both inspired by the work by our young musicians at the NOFA Winter Sessions in November and December 2016. The first, created by NOFA’s composer-in-residence Danyal Dhondy, brings together ideas from both Winter Sessions and develops them into a brand new piece for full orchestra. The second, composed and devised by Quest Ensemble, is their own response to the Winter Sessions material. The creative process behind both these pieces will be explained and illuminated during the concert. Visual artist Somang Lee will join NOFA members on stage to accompany the pieces with her own visual response.
Sparks will take place at art installation space Ambika P3 (underneath the University of Westminster in central London) on Sunday 30th April at 4pm. Please note this is a standing concert; if you require accessible seating, contact us at info@orchestrasforall.org or 0207 267 4141 to arrange this.
